One of the biggest challenges for a newbie is learning to use search engines wisely. This means finding the niche keyword phrases for the products and articles you would like to find on the Internet. So, in this article I will talk about successful strategies to help you use search engines wisely.
To begin with, it doesn’t take long to figure out that there are a ton of different search engines out there and they have many different options. I will discuss a few of those options here.
Most search engines have many different ways of allowing you to refine and control any searches that you would like to make.A large variety of them offer menu driven systems for this and other search engines have a variety of special commands that you must use as part of your inquiry. Here are some basic commands you can use without having to learn to do power searching.
When you are searching for an item, try to be specific. Instead of searching for “MyPrograms bugs”, try searching for , why does my computer do this? . This would be the action that’s occurring. You will get more accurate responses this way.
You can use the plus symbol to add. Sometimes, you will want to make sure that a search engine finds pages that have all the words you enter, not just some of them. The plus symbol lets you do this.
You can use the minus symbol to subtract . Occasionally, you may want a search engine to find articles that have one word in them but not another word. The minus symbol lets you do this. For instance, say you want IRS info but without collecting taxes. The command would be IRS – collecting taxes. You will get IRS info but no collecting taxes info.
These are the basic commands that most people will be using, most of the time. You can go to your favorite search engine and practice these commands to become familiar with them.
There are of course the power searching commands available for each search engine, and it is probably a good idea to read the help files at each search engine site to get more detailed information about what they are and what they do.
