Securing an easy to manage website

March 11th, 2008

Personal and Corporate website development is at an all time high. This is because, and I think it’s obvious, everyone wants a website. More importantly, an easy to manage website. Unfortunately, there is more to consider than just the graphic design skills and the technical design skills of your local website design developer. Because the World Wide web is an incredibly fast paced technology, a new website owner has a need to be able to easily manage the site for himself, with as little need for HTML skills as possible.

If you compare a professionally designed website and professionally branded site with a site that has been done with someones graphics tool, you will see what I mean. The graphics tool site will not appear as inviting to web surfers , for one thing, and just won’t help much in maintaining a customer base.

Due to the escalation of importance in the web today, more and more potential clients are using the web as their first stop in shopping for the product they will want to buy. They use it as a source of new and updated information. The problem here is that a lot of sites are not up to date and therefore are less relevant to the product than they should be.

In fact, there are surveys that have been done just recently that point to the fact that over 50 percent of shoppers would be unlikely to do business with a company that did not have an up to date and relevant website.

One of the reasons for this problem is that when a company is purchasing a site, they fail to take into account the issue of how they are going to manage the website content. Then they fail to set enough time aside to do it themselves.

In todays economic times, the cost is usually a small one, when you compare other management costs , to do this. This means many companies leave their websites outdated and not relevant to their current services and offerings. Doing this only helps their competition and will not reflect their current brand of products and may be inaccurate for pricing of products and services.

Besides this, businesses have to make sure that the website is current and relevant if they wish to get traffic that is coming from the web via search engine results and website relevance design. Unique content is king here also.

Attaining back links is a crucial function of website relevance design and being able to offer current and unique accurate content is a very effective way to promote your products and services on the web.

Here is an example that might help. An accounting company would have terms such as , “Professional Accounting Services”, or “Professional Bookkeeping Services”, within the website content to help the search engines find them.

So having an easy to manage website, needing little or no HTML skills, is needed for most businesses to approach internet marketing and promotion with an advantage over their competitors. If you are able to login and make changes in real time, performing such functions as uploading images and adding text and pages, you will be able to add keyword phrases that will target your product or services and allow clients to find you via the search engines.

If you plan to diversify at some time, you will also be able to change text and images as needed, cost effectively through the admin section and it will be possible to represent your products relevantly and effectively.

Learning To Use Search Engines Wisely

March 2nd, 2008

One of the biggest challenges for a newbie is learning to use search engines wisely. This means finding the niche keyword phrases for the products and articles you would like to find on the Internet. So, in this article I will talk about successful strategies to help you use search engines wisely.

To begin with, it doesn’t take long to figure out that there are a ton of different search engines out there and they have many different options. I will discuss a few of those options here.

Most search engines have many different ways of allowing you to refine and control any searches that you would like to make.A large variety of them offer menu driven systems for this and other search engines have a variety of special commands that you must use as part of your inquiry. Here are some basic commands you can use without having to learn to do power searching.

When you are searching for an item, try to be specific. Instead of searching for “MyPrograms bugs”, try searching for , why does my computer do this? . This would be the action that’s occurring. You will get more accurate responses this way.

You can use the plus symbol to add. Sometimes, you will want to make sure that a search engine finds pages that have all the words you enter, not just some of them. The plus symbol lets you do this.
You can use the minus symbol to subtract . Occasionally, you may want a search engine to find articles that have one word in them but not another word. The minus symbol lets you do this. For instance, say you want IRS info but without collecting taxes. The command would be IRS – collecting taxes. You will get IRS info but no collecting taxes info.

These are the basic commands that most people will be using, most of the time. You can go to your favorite search engine and practice these commands to become familiar with them.

There are of course the power searching commands available for each search engine, and it is probably a good idea to read the help files at each search engine site to get more detailed information about what they are and what they do.

Now, all that being said, I hope that I have given you an easy to learn strategy that you can use for the search engines, but now, let’s talk about Google.

Google has become the most used search engine in the world. This does not mean you should ignore the others though. If you are an affiliate marketer, your life could well depend on Google and you may need to get a little more detail about how Google works.

Optimizing your site for Google is a really good move if you want your site to succeed on line. Google accounts for over 50% of the internet searches in the United States alone. This means you must do what you can to please Google. Your rewards will be legion, as they say. If you’re a Google fan, then you are in the majority of internet users that trust and respect Google. Having your site in the top ten for your niche on Google is very often the same thing as having money in the bank.

This is a very simplified rendition of how to work with the search engines, and I can provide more detail on request.

Using Professional Article Writing to get Traffic to Your Website

February 21st, 2008

One of the best ways for any company to get traffic to their website is to do some style of professional article writing. This is where you can really get things off the ground. You post articles on Electronic Magazines (E-Zines) with stories about your business , and you will attract a lot of attention. The boys at Google love this.  Here is some unasked for advice about how to do it.

When we write professional marketing and design articles, we take several things into consideration.  For instance, we decide which keywords we would like to get listed under, we decide who our audience is and how we want to convey the information to our audience.

We like our articles to be anywhere from 300-500 words in length.  This seems to be the  ideal size to get listed within engines, and it also allows us enough text to promote or provide information on many different topics.  This is why I like the professional article marketing concept for several reason’s. If you have an article that is longer than this you may want to break it down into smaller topics that make sense and submit them separately.

It helps to insert a title, keywords, and description within the meta tags on the webpage. This step may not be necessary in some instances now. Specifically, when you have an all graphics page.  One of our keywords is professional design and marketing , for instance. You may also want to include a headline (or <h1> tag) with the  keyword phrases you are trying to obtain positioning on.  The higher up on the page you have a relevant headline, the greater your chances of getting listed, according to Google.

When it comes to actually writing the article, try to use basic grammar.  Your article also has to contain some sort of personality. A bored audience tends to turn off and not read your article and this will limit your success.  A great way to captivate your audience is to tell them a story, give them a testimonial, or review a product or service.  You will also want to provide enough information so they feel informed.

To make it easier to write the article, forget the fact that you are going to write an article.  Pretend that you are writing an email, a letter, or instructions to a friend.  Make it easy to read, step-by-step instructions, and add your personal appeal.  It is much easier to connect with a visitor on an emotional level if you show of a personal side, rather than appearing as some automated webpage.

In terms of keyword density, or how many times your main keyword phrases should appear on any page, you should have between 3-7 occurrences.  Any more than this will appear to be spam to the search engines, and any less will not be enough to get listed under those search terms.  There are tools available that allow you to quickly analyze your pages and determine the keyword density.  This is important in professional article writing.

Heres some quick rules

Use the keywords you want to be listed under in the title of your article Use the keywords in a heading tag at the top of your page <h1>Keywords</h1> Use the keywords in your opening paragraph Use the keywords in your closing paragraph Have between 300 and 500 words in your article Try to use your main keyword phrases 3-7 times per article. After reading all of this , are you ready to talk to a professional marketing and design person or will you write your own articles?

Here is a list of submission places to start if you would like to write your own.

Pupillo Group Blog

January 21st, 2008

So, this is it. Our brand spanking new website. After much deliberation (and compromise over sandwiches) our team launched a website which we feel embodies who we are as an agency and what our mission is for our clients and the field of creative. Speaking of creative this leads me into the basis for the story of our first blog entry…

Just the other day, I was asked by an Executive of a rather large company where the creative industry was going as far as trends. He said that he had heard of “All this so-called viral marketing, blogs and what-not”, but he wanted to know dollar for dollar where companies were investing their marketing budgets and he insisted that I not tell him it was “everything online” (which it isn’t).

Over the past few years an area of marketing/advertising that has seen tremendous growth (and ingenuity) is promotions. More companies are realizing the benefits of a strategically planned and executed promotional campaign. It can take a virtually unknown brand and launch it into the stratosphere and breathe life into a tired and worn brand seeking a serious boost. A creative promotional campaign not only generates buzz about the brand but it also informs, motivates and persuades your niche market.

Budgets for these campaign will vary from one creative execution to the next. The key thing to look for when choosing a company to concept and roll-out your campaign is creativity when choosing what form and shape the promotions will take and of course, bang for your buck. A relatively cool campaign that I had the opportunity to view while in NYC was a campaign that involved writing key messaging (with encouragement to visit the website for a coupon) and applying graphic artistry to city sidewalks with chalk. The cost involved was of course the chalk and paying an artist to do the visuals. Cheap and effective - the campaign generated a lot of buzz for the company involved (a cool clothing boutique) and increased their sales overall with repeat customers.

If you are interested in executing a killer promotions campaign, do your research, see what you like, who you like and what kind of budget you have in mind and then seek out the right agency for the job involved.
